Hi everyone! I’m back with another book cover illustration (+ character study). This time it’s inspired by (yep, you guessed it!) another Roald Dahl book, “Matilda”, one of my personal favorites. It tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, an extraordinary little girl, who is unfortunately mistreated by her family & school headmistress. Along the way, she discovers her intelligence and amazing (psychokinetic) abilities and uses it to turn her fortunes around. Aside from the book itself, I enjoyed the movie adaptation of the story as well. Oh, and not to mention the Broadway show! “Matilda” was the very first Broadway musical I went to
in New York and it was phenomenal to say the least.
I opted for a limited color palette while working on this project:
using mostly a periwinkle blue and a bright red hue to highlight Matilda’s blue dress and iconic red bow.
